The power of a smile

I was feeling blue
At my lowest ebb
I couldn’t see it through
Trapped in a spiders web

Everything seemed so hopeless
How could I ever escape
Could feel it coming
Over the past, I’d rake

But then she came up
Just a simple smile
I could see doors open
I could get past this trial

Now I am flying high
And she will never know
That it was her words of kindness
That set me free to grow

I joined a group, I met some guys
I could feel the tears, they built up in my eyes
What’s your story, they let me speak
Now I know I’m not alone, I don’t feel so weak

Some weeks I was happy
Some weeks I was sad
Sometimes I had no strength
Didn’t know if I was good or bad

They just kept supporting
Those lads at AMC
No judgement!
Only positivity

My smile, it started showing
Back to being me
The vibe was just mind blowin’
I could finally see

It’s okay to talk
That’s what they say

When she broke my heart

But that smile is where it started
I pressed reset, not delete
I got back up
Now I’m standin’ on my feet

Four Weeks

Four weeks of wonder
Four weeks of joy
Is she a girl?
Or is he a boy?

Four weeks of learning
About all the stages
Our little bean
Growing in phases

The pictures we’d take
The things that we’d do
Would he or she grow up
To be like me or you

The candles on cakes
The scrapes on the knees
The school trips, and days out
And university fees

Four weeks of planning
The things that we’d need
From buggies to bottles
Nighttime books to read

The smiles and the tantrums
The cuddles and kisses
The laughs and the giggles
The hopes and the wishes

Four weeks of excitement
Four weeks of you
But your heart stopped beating
And part of mine did too

I never got to meet you
To cradle you in my arms
I never got to protect you
And keep you from harms

Four weeks was blissful
Peaceful and happy
You’ll always be my child
And I’ll always be your daddy

Recovery

Brick by brick
Piece by piece
Pick up the glass
From round your feet

Drops from above
Well let it rain
For nothing good
Comes without strain

I see your face
I feel your breath
I take your hand
Upto my chest

From the dust comes the fresh air
From the darkness comes the light
From the embers come the fire
That burns right through the night

Let your tears be my mortar
Your hands be my spade
As we add another layer
To this life we made

New shoots
Recovery
Was twisted metal
Now green I see

A fresh start
A new day
A broken heart
Doesn’t have to end that way

Fear is the most powerful emotion

Fear sucks out joy
It takes away peace
It paralyses your whole body
And there is no release

All the what ifs
They drive you mad
Before there were happy days
But now always sad

Always on edge
A sense to forebode
Watch all your confidence
Quickly erode

The knots in your stomach
A kind of grief
The sense of panic
That lies underneath

Fear is corrosive
It’s all consuming
It traps you in a prison
Of your own delusion

But when all your fears
One day turn true
Gone is the hold
They had over you

Exposed and naked
Nowhere to hide
But now you’re back in control
Your fate, you decide

You thought you were weak
That you couldn’t survive
But not only are you strong
You’ve just learnt to thrive

Heartbroken

The genie’s out of the bottle and you let him rub your lamp

Now you’re second hand goods and you’ve just gone down a major army rank

You can’t take it back, that was a one way street

That wasn’t just a conquest, it was a fait accompli

I’m left here with train wreck and a broken heart

You should have thought of the consequences before you embraced him in your arms

Everytime I’m inside you he’s inside of my head too, this isn’t a ticket system, I won’t join the back of the queue

You want forgiveness, I want listerine

You put him in your mouth and now I’ll never get mine clean

20 years of life together, all poured down the drain

Now you’re battling to salvage however little still remains

A mistake can be forgiven but an affair cannot be forgotten.

You used to smell of roses now the stench is much more rotten

Unto death do us part but I didn’t want his aids, you stabbed me in the heart and the wound never fades

Betrayed

You left me on my own
Now you’re all alone
Hope you enjoy all
the silence and the pieces

You weren’t honest
I wasn’t easy
But we made a promise
And now you’ve deceived me

Say those three words
Pretend that you loved me
Pretend that it’s the sky, not soil above me

Say that you meant it
Pretend that you cared
The love that we had
The hope that we shared

How could something so good
Turn so quickly this rotten
Nothing lasts forever
Soon be forgotten

But those tears are crocodiles
And I have been bitten
Never had courage to write
What should have been written

Enough

Enough of the ticking
Goodbye to the tock

Enough of the fear
the self hate
the shock

Enough starting again
and falling back to the floor
you can have it death
come back with your claw

Enough pain
Enough tears
Enough feeling the dread
The monsters aren’t outside
They’re locked in your head

Enough wondering if this time
it’s finally near
A bridge
A train track
A walk off a pier
Whatever it takes
To make you disappear

Enough pathetic whining
you deserve what you’re feeling
Enough excuses and failures
It’s time you were leaving

Enough time that you wasted
Enough feelings of sorrow
You lived for today
But now is tomorrow

Enough putting it off
You cowardly shipwreck
They’re heading for port
You’re heading for the deck

Enough faking a smile
Enough tears of the clown
I’ll push you over
All you need to do is drown

All things must come to an end
You’ll soon be forgotten
You had no real worth
In fact you were rotten

So for one last time I’ll say it to you
Enough is enough
Do what you were supposed to do

From the B of the Bang to the tick of the tock

It starts with the B of the Bang
Then the ticking of the tock

The B is the promise
The untapped potential
Anticipation
First firsts
Excitement
Elation

First butterflies in the stomach
First melting of the heart
First love
First kiss
All the good fun parts

We rush to the G
Time seems so eternal
We’ll never be old
But there’s no truth in that kernel

With the pictures we snap
The moments we capture
The significance
Lots in pixels
Until dusted down thereafter

It was the B of the Bang
To the ticking of the tock

The ticking we can’t escape
No longer the en vogue
The hope of future fades
We’re now walking down the same old road

Now the ticking of the tock
It’s the knocking on the door
You know just what this means
The police car through the window
That second that time has stopped
And you don’t want to know any more

Time is now lost
No words to bring them back again
A goodbye without an answer
A photo scarred with tears of pain

Until the memory fades
And the dust begins to thicken
Loneliness takes us all
All our hearts are stricken

It was the B of the Bang
Then the ticking of the tock
Now the silence of forever
As we become forgot

Boiling Point

I feel like an Egg
Boiling in a pot
The water tries to crack me
And the pressure is too much
I can’t seem to stop it
Even though I try
All my good intentions
Quickly seem to die
I tried to tell someone that I’m hurting inside
But expression is so difficult
Especially when you’re an egg
